OUR MISSION IS TO PROVIDE EQUITABLE ACCESS TO QUALITY ORAL HEALTH CARE TO ALL

Today, Dental Connections is a private non-profit community health center that promotes equitable access to quality oral health care for children and adults. We provide comprehensive general and pediatric dental services, and we serve all income levels and age groups. We strive to be a dental home for people who experience barriers to accessing dental care.

Main Clinic and The Smile Squad: The Smile Squad is a community- based mobile dental program whose mission is two-fold. The first is to provide screenings and sealants for preschool children. The second is to travel to school districts in the Greater Des Moines area and provide comprehensive dentistry to students.

Dental Lifeline Network's Donated Dental Services (DDS) program provides comprehensive dental care. 

Applicants must have no means to afford dental care and must meet ONE of the following criteria: 

• Over 65 years of age
• Permanently disabled
• Need medically necessary dental care

What to expect? 

• Volunteers provide comprehensive treatment to eligible patients 
• Volunteers do not provide emergency services
• Volunteers do not provide cosmetic treatment

To qualify, a child must live in Iowa and:

• Be under 19 years old;
• Have no other health insurance;
• Be a citizen of the United States or a qualified alien;
• Be in a family that meets the hawk-I income limits.
• Cannot be the dependent of a State of Iowa employee;
• Children who qualify for Medicaid cannot get Hawk-I.

I-Smile is for kids and pregnant women, I-Smile at school is for preventative care for school-aged children.

• MICA’s School Sealant Program provides routine dental screenings to third and seventh-grade students throughout school districts in Boone, Marshall, Story, and Tama counties.
• Along with a routine screening, MICA’s dental hygienist applies a sealant to any tooth in need of one at no cost to the student’s family. These sealants act as a barrier between bacteria and the enamel of the teeth.
• According to the CDC, children receiving dental sealants in school-based programs have 60% fewer decayed surfaces in back teeth for up to 2-5 years after a single application.
• The I-Smile Dental Home Initiative is a program that helps Iowa’s children connect with dental services.
• I-Smile has four objectives: Improve the dental Medicaid program, recruit and retain dentists in underserved areas, incorporate dental clinics within rural hospitals, and improve the dental support system for families.

The Iowa Mission of Mercy sets up a temporary dental clinic in a rotating location in the State of Iowa. Volunteers and sponsors donate their time and resources to provide free dental care to patients who attend the clinic. Lives are transformed as licensed dental professionals provide a wide variety of treatments from cleanings to some oral surgeries and everything in between. Oral health is a critical part of a person’s overall well-being, but some face barriers when it comes to receiving proper dental care.

Ocean Dental believes the type of payment should never dictate the availability of quality dental care.
