Nature Explorers - Bird Banding

Nature Explorers is a free program for preschoolers through 5th graders - though learners of all ages are always welcome! 

Join us OFF SITE near Grinnell for a very special opportunity! We will get to see bird banding in action and get great close up views of some of Iowa's birds! 

Please note that we will only meet at 10:30 am and will not have an afternoon session.

We will meet every other Tuesday at Diamond Lake Park.  The same program will be offered at 10 am and 1 pm, come to whichever works for your family's schedule. Feel free to bring a picnic to eat in the shelter before or after your program!

Amy will send a text out on Monday to let you know what to expect (ex: we'll be hiking you might want boots and a baby carrier; it's surprisingly chilly, we're moving indoors etc.) call or text to get on the text reminder list. 

Weather permitting we'll meet in the main shelter.

RSVPs are not required, but they are always appreciated!

Hunter Education Class

This class is the in-person component required for youth under 18. Prior to class students must complete the online component. Allow youth plenty of time to complete the online portion as some modules take several hours to complete.

Online signup is open now!

The requirements for 11-17-year-olds are listed under Option 2. Once you've read through the information sign up for the Diamond Lake class at the "events" link.

Outdoor Journey for Girls - @ Hickory Hills Park

Outdoor Journey for Girls is 3 days, 2 nights camp hosted by Iowa Women in Natural Resources for girls ages 12 to 15. Girls will have the opportunity to try various activities like kayaking, orienteering, archery, campfire cooking, and fishing, while also completing their Hunter Education Course through in person training.

Poweshiek County Pheasants Forever generously reimburses registration costs for all girls who attend. Once you have registered email proof of payment (a screenshot is fine) to aandrews@poweshiekcounty.org and after your child attends camp you will be reimbursed for the $175 registration fee. This offer is available for ALL girls from Poweshiek County.
