2026 Hazard Mitigation Plan Public Review

posted 6/22/26 · Emergency Management The Poweshiek County Emergency Management Agency is finalizing its Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan before submission to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for review and approval. The plan evaluates the risks and vulnerabilities associated with natural and human-caused hazards that may affect Poweshiek County, participating cities, and participating school districts. It also identifies mitigation actions intended to reduce risk, strengthen community resilience, and protect lives, property, infrastructure, and community assets. The draft Poweshiek County, Iowa Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan is available for partner and public review. This draft reflects updated hazard profiles, a countywide risk assessment, and proposed mitigation strategies for Poweshiek County; the cities of Brooklyn, Deep River, Grinnell, Guernsey, Hartwick, Malcom, Montezuma, and Searsboro; and the BGM Community School District, Grinnell-Newburg Community School District, and Montezuma Community School District. The DRAFT plan will be available for review until July 3, 2026, at 5:00 PM. Community members, businesses, organizations, and stakeholders are encouraged to review the plan and provide comments, recommendations, corrections, or questions.
